Applying for your student visa in Australia? Don't forget to get your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) insurance. It's a must-have for all international students. It'll protect you from the high costs of unexpected doctor visits or hospital stays. Plus, it'll give you peace of mind knowing you're covered if something happens. Compare different options and choose the one that best suits your needs. Don't let this important step slip through your mind as you prepare for your studies abroad. Note that the migration department could refuse your student visa application if you do not have international student insurance.
Not having OSHC insurance when applying for a student visa can be a big problem. The government might just reject your application. It's a must-have for international students in Australia. Not having OSHC insurance can also get you in trouble with your visa and might even get it cancelled. So, make sure you have it before you apply for your student visa. Some countries like Norway do not need an OSHC, check the government website for all eligible countries.
When traveling to the other side of the world, it can be challenging to understand how to transfer money from one country to another. Here are several solutions for when coming to Australia on a visa while saving some money.
When you arrive in Australia, you will need to find a place to live, eat, and take care of yourself, etc. Until you find the job of your dreams or at least one that will make you rich enough to travel! Australia is not France; the cost of living is more expensive than in France (4.2% more expensive than in France) But then you might ask yourself, "Why not use my French card?" "I have an online bank, I'm fine," or "I will take cash and exchange it when I arrive." Here are some answers below
Using your bank card from your home country in Australia? This solution seems to be the simplest, unfortunately anything that is simple is not always the best solution. When you use your debit card in Australia, in addition to the exchange rate, you will have to pay bank fees with your bank, which can be very expensive in the end. The problem also arises when you want to directly transfer money from France to Australia, banks do not know how to do it themselves (problem with BIC / IBAN / SWIFT code etc ...). But most importantly, international transfers are very expensive!
Online banks are really good when you travel and spend a few weeks in a country. But when you arrive in Australia for a few months, there is nothing better than an Australian account. When you pay with your online bank, you will have an exchange rate a bit higher than the normal rate. You are often limited in terms of spending or payments per day. And above all, if you plan to work in Australia, your salary will necessarily be on your Australian account.
This is a very good solution, to help you out for one or two days when you arrive in Australia. But you won't be able to hide everything under your mattress for very long. And the exchange rates are not the most favorable either. Lots of our clients have been exchanging money at the airport or in some Money exchange places in their city of arrival in Australia, they often regret it.
Some operators offer free transfers (many French banks offer this when you go to Australia) but they make up for it with the exchange rate. What the bank does is that they pretend they only charge you a set transfer fee of $10 to $20 per transfer but what they are avoiding to tell you is that their exchange rates aren’t based on the same world rate, they have their own rates. Basically they will make some money on each DOLLAR you send over. Sneaky hey? It is therefore advisable to switch to a specialized operator, with a low transfer cost but with a real exchange rate.
When using specialized operators, the exchange rate is much more competitive than that in banks and you can make big savings. Having tested them, the best company remains WISE https://wise.prf.hn/l/GlYpyyZ The main advantage of having a Wise account, compared to a traditional bank account, is being able to manage your money without borders, without international transaction fees or exorbitant exchange rates. With Wise, you will always get a real exchange rate and reduced fees. Features: Real exchange rate, online assistance for your transfers, fees of 0.47% of the amount to be converted + 0.45€ (transfer in the direction EUR > AUD), transfer time of 1 to 2 days (count 4 to 5 days for the first transfer), ergonomic and simple system and available mobile application
TIP: If you want to create your ONLINE BANK ACCOUNT AND ORDER A BANK CARD before your arrival in Australia CLICK BELOW. Make sure to do this at least ONE MONTH before you arrive
Since the 1st of July 2023, there are no online courses available for international students
From the 1st of July 2023, the student visa cost is 710 AUD. But you will need insurance to cover the entirety of the duration of your study
and you will also have to pay for your school
It will depend on your study - such as vocational, higher education, Elicos etc. Usually 50% of the cases are processed within 35 days and 90% of the cases are processed in 3 months
It depends on what kind of study you choose, where you are from meaning if you are onshore or offshore etc. But the hardest one for everyone is the financial proof. The minimum will be 25K and can be more as well in certain cases. For example if you come from a level 3 country, you will need to prove you have enough money to pay for your whole course, and also to live in Australia for 1 year
You can create an ABN while you are on a Student Visa
When on a student visa you will need to have student insurance. There are many insurance providers such as AHM OSHC, Medibank, Allianz, Bupa, NIB etc. Usually we prefer to go with Allianz which is cheaper than Buda and considered the second best Student insurance in Australia
